A Day in the Life with a Newborn

Newborns generally drink milk, poop, and sleep around the clock in the early days. Here is a glimpse into a day in the life with a newborn. With these newborn care tips in mind, you can help ensure that your little one is happy and healthy.

1. Regular Feeding

Frequent feeding is normal and is expected in the early days as most newborns need to be nursed/fed at least 8-12 times (every 2-3 hours) in a day. While you are focusing at providing the essential nutrients to help your newborn to grow, it is also important to establish a good oral hygiene routine for their oral health.

It is normal for newborns to have milk residues on their tongue after feeding. Mommies can gently clean your newborn’s gums and tongue with Suzuran Baby Wet Cleaning Cotton after feeding. This will help to prevent bacterial growth and promote good oral health from birth onwards. Also, your newborn will have a smoother transition to brushing teeth later.

2. Frequent Diaper Changing

You will be changing your newborn’s diaper every 2-3 hours, which is almost after every feed because newborn urinates around 20 times in a day for the first few months. And it’s very important to change your newborn’s diaper as soon as you notice they’ve had a bowel movement. This is because poop can irritate their delicate skin and it may lead to a bladder infection, especially among baby girls.

Doctor recommends to use soft cotton pads with lukewarm water to clean your baby’s bum during diaper changes to prevent diaper rash. Suzuran Baby Antibacterial Cut Cotton is an ideal baby wipe to clean your baby’s bum because it is made from 100% pure cotton and contains zero chemicals and additives. Not only soft and gentle, Suzuran Baby Antibacterial Cut Cotton it is also lint-free, so mommies do not have to worry about your newborn breaking out in diaper rashes anymore.

3. Bathing & Bonding Time

It is normal if a newborn cries during bath time because they are highly sensitive to temperature change and instantly feels uncomfortable. Swaddle bath is a newborn bathing method that keeps newborns feel warm and secure during bath time and creates a stress-free and better bonding experience for both baby and parents.

Here is a quick guide on how to swaddle bath your newborn. First, wrap your newborn with Suzuran Baby Gauze Swaddle Bath Towel, then immerse him/her in a bathtub filled with lukewarm water. The immersed bath towel allows warm water to travel up the towel and warms up your newborn’s body. Unswaddle, wash, rinse and re-swaddle each of your newborn's limb individually with the loose ends of bath towel or with Suzuran Baby Gauze Handkerchief.

4. Sleeping Time

Newborns spend most of their time sleeping, and only wake up every few hours for milk. As they are lying on their back most of the time, they actually sweat when they fall asleep (which is normal), hence, it is important to dress your baby in breathable and comfortable clothing, so they have uninterrupted sleep.

Dress your newborn in Suzuran Baby Gauze Short Undershirt, which is made from 100% cotton gauze fabric that permits better aeration and provides high absorbency to absorb sweat and dry easily. You do not want to overdress your newborn in our hot and humid weather. Here’s a quick check if you are overdressing your baby.

Alternatively, you can also insert a Suzuran Baby Gauze Sweat Pad behind your newborn’s back to keep their skin cool and dry.

In sum, a day in the life with a newborn is very much about feeding and changing diaper. Suzuran Baby is here to make sure your newborn grows up happily and healthily.
