A Gentle Step-by-Step Guide to Bathing Your Newborn
Bath time with a newborn is more than just cleaning – it is about comfort, safety, and love in every touch. With the right approach, bath time can be calm, safe and enjoyable for both you and your baby. We know first-time parents can be a little bit paranoid when it comes to bathing your newborn, but do not worry, we have a step-by-step routine you can follow to bathe your newborn.
Preparing the bath

Gather the supplies. Warm the room. Prepare the bath. Before you start, get everything ready so you never have to walk away from your baby mid-bath. Place towels, clean clothes and baby cotton within reach. Fill the baby tub with about 2 inches of warm water at around 37 to 38°C. Test it using your wrist or elbow to make sure it feels comfortably warm. Here is a list of what you need to prepare for baby’s bath:
- Suzuran Baby Antibacterial Cut Cotton
- Lukewarm water in a container
- Soft washcloth / Suzuran Baby Gauze Handkerchief
- Suzuran Baby Gauze Swaddle Towel
- Mild baby wash
- Suzuran Baby Large Bath Towel
- Clean diaper
- Fresh clothes / Suzuran Baby Gauze Undershirt
- Suzuran Baby Wet Cleaning Cotton
- Suzuran Baby Antibacterial Cotton Swab
Step 1: Washing Baby’s Face

Begin with the face while your baby is still dry and wrapped.
Dampen a piece of Suzuran Baby Antibacterial Cut Cotton with lukewarm water and gently wipe around the eyes, nose, mouth, cheeks and chin. Clean from the inner corner of the eye outward. At this stage, water is enough. No soap is needed for newborn skin.
Step 2: Washing Baby’s Hair

Support your baby’s head with one hand. Use Suzuran Baby Soft Handkerchief, gently clean the scalp and hair. Keep your baby comfortable by talking or humming to them as you go. This helps them feel secure. Dry the baby’s hair with Suzuran Baby Large Bath Towel immediately after the wash.
Step 3: Cleaning Baby’s Bottom
Before placing your baby in the bath, clean the diaper area. Take a piece of Suzuran Baby Antibacterial Cut Cotton, dampen it with lukewarm water. Wipe from front to back to prevent infection. Fold the cotton and continue wiping until the area is clean. Use a fresh dry cotton when needed.
Step 4: Washing Baby’s Body

Undress your baby and swaddle your baby in a Suzuran Baby Gauze Swaddle Bath Towel. This keeps them warm and prevents sudden chills. Slowly immerse your baby into the bath tub and let your baby gets used to the water sensation, then unswaddle your baby limb by limb. Wash your baby’s body using a Suzuran Baby Soft Handkerchief. Start with the neck area, then clean the arms, chest, tummy, back and legs. Pay attention to skin folds around the neck, thighs and underarms where milk and sweat can collect.
Step 5: Drying Baby’s Body

Lift your baby out of the tub and wrap them immediately in a Suzuran Baby Gauze Large Bath Towel. Pat the skin dry instead of rubbing. The lightweight gauze absorbs water quickly while being gentle on sensitive skin.
Step 6: Dressing and Swaddling Baby
Once your baby is completely dry, put on a fresh diaper and soft, breathable clothing to keep them comfortable. Swaddle your baby with a breathable cloth to keep them secured and comfortable.
Step 7: Cleaning Baby’s Mouth and Tiny Areas

Finish with gentle cleaning care. Use one piece of Suzuran Baby Wet Cleaning Cotton to clean your baby’s tongue, another piece to clean upper and lower gums. For small spots like baby’s ears and nostrils, use Suzuran Baby Antibacterial Cotton Swab.
